trappole monitor moscerini frutta

Flies and midges are a familiar presence in our homes, but although they may all look the same to the untrained eye, there are numerous species with very different characteristics, behaviour patterns and feeding preferences, all posing different health and hygiene hazards.

The Drosophila, more commonly known as the fruit fly, is a small insect, no more than three millimetres in length, which poses no threat to human health, but which can damage food products to such an extent that they have to be thrown away.

As its name suggests, Drosophila is particularly attracted to fruit, but its target is the sugary substances that serve as its main source of nourishment.

Flies and fruit flies therefore spoil food by eating it, transferring the bacteria and micro-organisms present on their bodies, and depositing their eggs to ensure that their larvae have something to eat as soon as they hatch.

The biggest problem with flies and fruit flies is their high capacity for infestation; a single female can lay up to 600 eggs during her adult life, which is just over a month long.

Under optimal conditions, the eggs can hatch within a day, with the larvae starting to feed on the fruit in which they have hatched and reaching maturity in just one week.

The rapidity of the life cycle and the large number of eggs can therefore cause the Drosophila population to grow exponentially until it becomes unmanageable. As well as homes, any business that produces or stores food can be at risk.

One way to combat this bothersome insect is to use monitor traps for flies and fruit flies.

Monitor traps do not use active agents or toxic substances to eliminate insects, which means they can be used in any situation without problems.

Monitor traps for flies and fruit flies use an adhesive surface to trap the insects, which are attracted by colours and designs reminiscent of the fruit they eat; once they land, they are unable to escape.

This system not only allows infestation to be contained without the use of biocides, but also helps to ascertain the true severity and thus decide whether to take more drastic action.

IGO manufactures a wide range of monitor traps to contract, including those targeted at flies and fruit flies.

For more than 15 years, IGO has been a certified Medical and Surgical Device Manufacturer and provides the contract manufacture of insecticide products for domestic and civil use on substrates such as cellulose, granules or mixtures, and various types of liquid solutions to which one or more active substances have been added.
